Sam's Club promotes breast cancer awareness

10/3/2013

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam’s Club maintains its emphasis on health care this month with a health event tied in with breast cancer awareness.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Sam's Club is offering free women's health screenings to members and non-members on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its 576 clubs that contain a pharmacy.

As part of the day's preventive health screenings, Sam's Club will give away more than 25,000 breast self-exam kits and also will conduct preventive thyroid-stimulating hormone testing, which measures thyroid hormone levels in women and identifies overactive and underactive thyroid glands, which can be the root of various health problems. The free health screening event features tests valued up to $200, and also includes such things as a take-home breast self-exam gel packs, blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, body mass index and vision tests.

"Sam's Club is proud to have provided more than 700,000 women's health screenings last year, and is pleased to again offer a free health resource during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to women in communities nationwide," said Jill Turner-Mitchael, SVP of health and wellness.
