ALBANY, N.Y. New York state's capital is getting a new neighbor.

Discount grocery chain Save-A-Lot opened its doors in Albany, N.Y. The company's newest store will host a ribbon cutting Thursday, joined by the town major and country legislature.

"Save-A-Lot is committed to building stores in neighborhoods that want convenience and access to fresh, nutritious food at a great low price," said Bill Shaner, the company's president and CEO. "We are proud to be a member of the Albany community and look forward to serving budget-conscious, value-seeking families in the area."

In line with its grand opening, Save-A-Lot has donated $2,500 to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and The Cure Foundation to help with their mission to reduce hunger as part of their commitment to the community.

In addition to the newest store, Save-A-Lot currently operates 42 stores throughout the state. The company plans continued growth as it plans to double its size over the next five years.
