HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Holiday shopping online at Sears and Kmart is booming, Sears Holdings announced Tuesday.
"As holiday shopping season shifts into high gear, Sears and Kmart are encouraged by the traffic we are seeing on our online platforms," stated Imran Jooma, EVP Sears Holdings. "Starting with the early online availability of our Black Friday deals the day before Thanksgiving, on Black Friday and into Cyber Monday and Week, our members are taking advantage of our hottest deals."
Holiday shopping — especially online this year — has become less a one day make-or-break event, and has evolved into more of a multiday happening, Jooma said. "It's a retail trend we anticipated and why we decided to officially declare it 'Cyber Week' for our members, giving them week-long specials, more convenience in how they receive their purchases, and a reason to keep coming back to our .com sites," he said. "Mobile is also experiencing tremendous growth as our integrated retail strategy gains traction, as we saw a significant increase in mobile site visits and member engagements on Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday and through the weekend."
Jooma also mentioned the company's unique online/in-store collaboration between Sears and Kmart, in which members and customers can avoid shipping and conveniently pick up their gifts at more than 1,800 locations. "Multichannel transactions now represent a majority of our overall transactions," he said.
