Shoppers Drug Mart raises money for cancer organizations

11/7/2014

TORONTO — Shoppers Drug Mart is looking to raise $750,000 in support of Look Good Feel Better across its stores in the Aberta, Atlantic and Prairies regions. And in Ontario, the Canadian drug store retailer is hoping to raise $375,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

"In support of our commitment to improving women's health through Shoppers Drug Mart WOMEN, stores across the country will be holding in-store Holiday Beauty Galas on Nov. 8, 2014," the company stated.

The galas will include various activities including, but not limited to, skin analysis and makeup applications, as well as special draws and raffles. Tickets are available for $10. Half of each ticket sold will be donated to the respective charities, while the remaining $5 can be redeemed on any cosmetic purchase made at Shoppers Drug Mart during the event.

"The Holiday Beauty Galas allow customers and employees the opportunity to donate directly to the organizations that make a difference to women's health," said Lisa Gibbs, director, community investment, Shoppers Drug Mart. "With the support of our associate-owners, their store teams, our employees and customers, we can make a difference and improve the health of all Canadian women in body, mind and spirit."

The money raised will go to Look Good Feel Better workshops and educational programs they offer at 118 cancer-care facilities and hospitals across the country. Look Good Feel Better was created on the premise that if a woman with cancer can be helped to look good, chances are she will feel better, her spirits will be lifted and she will be empowered to face her illness with greater confidence.

In Ontario, funds raised will give customers a chance to learn more about their breast health and ways they can help reduce the risk of breast cancer.  Cure Breast Cancer Foundation will create the first-ever digital breast health tool, offering women throughout Ontario additional resources to learn about breast cancer and give them the opportunity and accessibility to get screened.
