Southeastern Grocers raises more than $560K for La. flood victims

9/8/2016

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As the result of customer donations at its BI-LO, Harveys and Winn-Dixie banner stores, Southeastern Grocers on Thursday announced a $565,393.04 donation to the American Red Cross’ Disaster Relief for assistance of Louisiana residents affected by recent flood there. The donation includes a dollar-for-dollar match from the Southeastern Grocers Foundation.

“We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to our customers, associates and communities throughout our footprint for supporting families in Louisiana during these challenging times,” Southeastern Grocers president and CEO Ian McLeod said. “The donation amount is a true testament of the generosity of our customers, and we are delighted to present the American Red Cross with over $565,000 for disaster relief.”

The funds donated will go toward providing shelter, water, hot meals, first aid, damage assessment, disability assistance and comfort and emotional support for those affected by flooding.

“Southeastern Grocers played an integral role by activating its customer donation program within 24 hours,” the American Red Cross of Louisiana regional CEO Josh Joachim said. “Through the generous support of partners like Southeastern Grocers, the American Red Cross is able to meet the emergency needs of the community today and in the future.”

Currently, two Southeastern Grocery locations in Louisiana — one Winn-Dixie in Walker and another in Baton Rouge — remain closed, though Winn-Dixie transported, constructed and stocked a fully functional mobile pharmacy for the Walker location.
