Supervalu announces expansion to existing Boise location

2/4/2008

Minneapolis Supervalu announced plans to expand its Boise location by 26,000 square feet, adding on to their current 34,000 square foot center. The company, which has two data centers—one in Boise and the other located in Eden Praire, Minn.—has decided that the Boise center will be its primary location.

The Boise location will be used to process data from its stores and distribution centers, whereas the Eden Prairie site will be used for testing and development. The reason Eden Prairie was not chosen for acquisition was simply because there was no room, according to published reports.

“This is a natural step for Supervalu as we continue to harness the efficiencies across the company by consolidating data center functions into one primary location,” Paul Singer, Supervalu’s chief information officer, stated.

Although there will be a significant expansion, the possibility of the need for additional employees is unlikely, as the data center is automated, and, according to Singer, “the staff should be able to handle the increased data load.”
