11/21/2011

WASHINGTON — Online retailers this year are putting a heavy emphasis on promotions during the Thanksgiving holiday through Cyber Monday, according to a new Shop.org survey.

The survey, conducted by BIGresearch, found that more than half of online retailers (51%) will offer promotions on Thanksgiving, while nearly 8-out-of-10 (78.4%) will offer Cyber Monday promotions. Overall, 92.2% will offer special promotions at some point during the Thanksgiving weekend. In regards to what type of promotions they will offer, 45% of online retailers will offer coupons and percent off deals, while 37.5% will host limited-time promotions, 30% will offer free standard shipping with conditions and 15% will feature a free gift with their purchase.

"As a direct result of increased demand, online retailers will offer hard-to-pass-up deals to shoppers all season long - before, on and after Cyber Monday," Shop.org executive director Vicki Cantrell said. "In addition to many free shipping promotions, there will be plenty of extra ways to save on Cyber Monday, including percentages off entire sites and online-only sales."
