Target paints bullseye on its urban and smaller-store formats

MINNEAPOLIS — Target on Tuesday announced it will unite its CityTarget and TargetExpress stores under the banner by which everyone knows the retailer — "Target."


 


"At Target, one of our strengths is the flexibility in our store design. Over the years, we’ve explored many different formats that help us tailor our stores to fit their neighborhoods," the company stated. "But big or small, our stores have one thing in common: They’re all Target."


 


Beginning in October, the urban and smaller-format locations will be rebranded with the iconic Target bullseye. 


 


The rebranding does not indicate any change in the company's commitment to urban locations are new store formats. Target will be opening four smaller, flexible format stores in October in San Francisco, San Diego, Chicago and Rosslyn, Va. Two other stores — in Del Sur, Calif. and Fort Worth, Texas — will be traditional-size stores.
