Texans get ready for H-E-B's fifth annual Slim Down Showdown

8/13/2015

SAN ANTONIO - H-E-B opened the application period to its 2016 H‑E‑B Slim Down Showdown, a 12-week competition where participants have a chance to win a $10,000 grand prize or a $5,000 health hero prize. The Showdown begins in San Antonio with an intensive, seven day wellness program known as Fit Camp, complete with fitness and nutrition training, cooking lessons, meal training and more.

Upon returning home, contestants receive coaching and support from H‑E‑B’s registered dietitians, past contestants and wellness coaches. At the halfway mark, contestants return to San Antonio for two days to receive a midpoint screening and reconnect with their personal fitness and nutrition experts to receive additional hands‑on cooking, meal planning and fitness training.

The 12‑week competition begins Jan. 17, 2016 and overall winners will be announced during a Grand Finale celebration in San Antonio on April 16, 2016. To date, 185 contestants have lost over 4,000 pounds while participating in the Slim Down Showdown program.

In 2010, H‑E‑B made a commitment to its employees to help them become healthier and live longer. In 2012, H-E-B extended that commitment to the customers and the communities the company serves and created its first community Slim Down Showdown.

"The success of the contestants, combined with the excitement generated within the community, showed us we were on the right track," H-E-B stated.
