Wakefern goes in-house for new tech chief
KEASBEY, N.J. — Wakefern Food Corp. has named executive Cheryl Williams as its new CIO and VP of the computer information services division (CISD).
Williams will coordinate cybersecurity efforts and technology on both the corporate and retail sides of the business. During two decades at Keasbey, New Jersey-based Wakefern, a 50-member cooperative operating more than 260 supermarkets under the ShopRite and The Fresh Grocer banners on the East Coast, Williams has held roles including VP of marketing and VP of digital commerce and innovation (DCI). She began her career at Wakefern as a manager of retail systems in CISD in 1996, later serving as CISD director.
Since being named VP of DCI in 2012, Williams’ accomplishments include leading the team that launched ShopRite's first mobile app, along with the ShopRite from Home online service and digital coupons.
“From our phones to our computers, and from our warehouses to our retail stores, technology is key and it's important that the division stays leading edge,” said Williams.
Williams also serves on Wakefern’s Executive Staff, the senior management team that helps guide the company’s corporate and strategic vision.
