Walgreens celebrates Red Nose Day by ringing Nasdaq Opening Bell

5/26/2016

NEW YORK — Walgreens VP corporate operations Skip Bourdo, alongside Comic Relief trustee Christy Gibb, literally rang in Red Nose Day 2016 — the charity’s annual fundraising campaign  to help children in the poorest areas of the U.S. and the world — by ringing the Opening  Bell at the Nasdaq Stock Market’s Times Square headquarters. Representatives from NBCUniversal and Mars Chocolate North America were also in attendance.

Red Nose Day, which happens May 26, is an initiative that encourages people to get silly in an effort to raise money for Comic Relief, and it culminates in a two-hour NBC broadcast featuring popular comedians, musicians and Hollywood stars combining comedy, live music and short films that shed light on the cause of helping children in need.

“We’ve already raised millions of dollars for this year’s event, thanks to our valued customers, supplier partners and particularly our passionate team members who all took advantage of a chance to get seriously silly during this powerful campaign,” Bourdo said.

Through June 4, Walgreens and Duane Reade stores in the United States will sell red noses for $1 each, as well as a selection of red flair items. The proceeds from all purchases of Red Nose Day merchandise benefit the Red Nose Day Relief Fund, which supports charities working to fight childhood poverty, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of America; charity:water; Children’s Health Fund; Covenant House; Feeding America; Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance; National Council of La Raza; National Urban League; Oxfam America; Save the Children; and The Global Fund.
