Walgreens CFO announces changes to store format

4/29/2009

DEERFIELD, Ill. Walgreens announced it will begin testing a more streamlined store format, which eventually will be implemented in all of its stores.

The goal behind the initiative, Walgreens CFO Wade Miquelon said Tuesday at the Barclays Capital Retail and Restaurants Conference, is to make the shopping experience better for the consumers.

The format will consist of shorter shelf heights, cohesive categorized products, including a stronger emphasis on skin care and cosmetics. By the fall, the company anticipates to have the format in play at close to 400 stores.
