Walgreens named recipient of American Cancer Society’s Discovery Ball Corporate Partnership Award
DEERFIELD, Ill. – Walgreens was honored with the American Cancer Society’s Discovery Ball Corporate Partnership Award at the 10th Annual Discovery Ball earlier this month at the Hilton Chicago, the company announced Friday.
The Discovery Ball Corporate Partnership Award recognizes corporate partners that exemplify extraordinary leadership and continued support in the fight against cancer. Since the Discovery Ball’s inception in 2007, Walgreens has been a leading sponsor, past event chair and Board of Ambassadors member helping the event raise nearly $25 million.
“Walgreens corporate social responsibility efforts include partnering with charitable organizations and providers to provide high quality cancer care, so we’re a natural supporter and partner with ACS,” stated Alex Gourlay, president Walgreens, while accepting the award. “ACS’ goal to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays is one we share as we champion everyone’s right to be happy and healthy.”
As a committed American Cancer Society partner throughout the past two decades, Walgreens and its customers have helped raise $38 million in local communities throughout the country in addition to supporting the Discovery Ball. For seven consecutive years, Walgreens also has received the American Cancer Society’s Corporate Philanthropy Award for raising over $1 million annually. And in 2009, Walgreens was honored with the American Cancer Society’s inaugural Corporate Impact Award, distinguishing Walgreens as a corporate partner that has made a tremendous impact in the fight against cancer.
