Walmart names new SVP, president health and wellness

BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart on Friday named George Riedl as SVP, president Walmart health and wellness, reporting to Michelle Gloeckler, Walmart EVP consumables and health and wellness.



Riedl starts Dec. 14.



Riedl comes to Walmart from Advanced Marketing & Sales, where he was president. Prior to joining Advanced Marketing & Sales, Riedl spent 27 years at Walgreens, where he was chief merchant. He led areas including e-commerce, third party operations and contracts, pharmaceutical purchasing and held positions of GMM pharmacy, health and wellness, SVP pharmacy innovation and purchasing and EVP merchandising and marketing.



"George is an expert in pharmacy and health and wellness and has been recognized in the industry as one of The 50 Most Influential People in Mass Market Retailing," Gloekler said. "His combination of retail and extensive pharmacy and healthcare experience will help us accelerate our impact in health and wellness."



Riedl earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Illinois in Chicago. He holds his pharmacist license in the state of Illinois and has served as a Retail Advisory Board Member for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores. His wife, Melanie, is a pharmacist, as are nine of his family members.



Reporting to Riedl will be Paul Beahm, SVP H&W operations; Marcus Osborne, VP payer relations; Sandy Ryan, VP clinics; Mark Phillips, VP Rx merchandising; Susanne Hiland, senior director quality and clinical services and Jeff Brown, senior director billing and reconciliation.
