Weis Markets gets new VP sales and merchandising

SUNBURY, Pa. Weis Markets announced Monday that Kurt Schertle, a former Shopper's Food and Pharmacy executive, has joined the company as VP sales and merchandising.

Schertle will oversee and direct all aspects of the company's marketing, merchandising and advertising for the company's center store, perishable and pharmacy departments. He will also oversee advertising, procurement/private label, pricing and marketing.

Schertle replaces Wayne Bailey who has become the company's VP operational administration.

Schertle has more than 20 years of food retailing experience, mostly with Shoppers Food and Pharmacy, which currently operates 63 stores in the Baltimore-Washington corridor.

Weis Markets operates 154 stores in five Mid-Atlantic States: Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia. It also owns and operates SuperPetz, a pet supply superstore chain with 27 locations in nine states.
