What’s Hot: Low-priced digital cameras arrive this fall

10/15/2007

Kodak is returning to the low-priced digital camera market this fall with a new model priced well under $100.

The Kodak EasyShare C513 arrived in stores in October at a suggested retail price of $79.95, a price that’s sure to be lowered by promotion-minded retailers. The new 5-megapixel camera fits easily in the palm of a hand, has a 3X optical zoom and can shoot up to 80 minutes of video depending on the size of the memory card.

Kodak abandoned the now burgeoning under-$100 market in 2006 to focus on higher-end cameras, but has returned with the idea that it can turn a profit even on low-priced units. Hewlett Packard also has entered the space with its E330 priced at $79 and the M440 that sells for $99.
