10/31/2014

WASHINGTON — Treasury Department aide Alastair “Al” Fitzpayne has been tapped as the Department of Health and Human Services’ next chief of staff, the Wall Street Journal reported.

In January 2009, Fitzpayne joined the Treasury as deputy chief of staff, and later became assistant secretary for legislative affairs. According to the WSJ, he is expected to join HHS sometime in November.

In his new role, Fitzpayne will work with secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell. The WSJ reported that Burwell is still working on implementing key parts of the healthcare law and Fitzpayne would be involved in both administrative and political decisions.
