MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — iHealth Lab and the San Jose office of the American Diabetes Association on Thursday announced the "iHealth Walk for Wellness Challenge," a competition designed to encourage personal fitness and participation in the ADA's 2015 Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes campaign in San Jose.
“By partnering with iHealth, and its broad array of consumer mobile health products, we hope to raise awareness and funds to support diabetes research and surpass our $280,000 fundraising goal,” Karen Zimmerman, associate director ADA San Jose, said.
The first 300 registered event participants to raise at least $100 for the campaign will receive a free iHealth Edge Wireless Fitness Tracker (valued at $69.95). Then, starting Sept. 20, each of the 300 fitness tracker recipients will be entered into a competition to see who can record the most steps walked each week leading up to the event. The top walker each week, as recorded on the campaign website's leaderboard, will receive a free iHealth Wireless Smart Gluco-Monitoring System.
Finally, the four weekly fitness challenge winners will be put into a drawing to win the grand prize: a bundle of all iHealth products, which includes a wireless blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter and body composition scale.
This year's 1-mile, 5K, and 10K walk will be held on Oct. 18 at the Guadalupe River Trail in downtown San Jose.
