AMG Medical honors veterans with annual national program

11/11/2010

ALPHARETTA, Ga. Sam’s Club locations on Wednesday kicked off “Hugo Salutes Our Veterans,” a national program that will provide 36,000 Hugo folding canes free of charge to U.S. military veterans in need of mobility assistance.

“All of us at AMG Medical want to express our deepest appreciation to all of the members of our military. Thank you for your service,” stated Philip delBuey, global president of AMG Medical. “Our company’s mission is all about helping people stay active and connected to family, friends and the community, and we hope that many veterans will participate in Hugo Salutes.”

Hugo Salutes Our Veterans has significantly grown from its 2007 launch by AMG Medical. AMG Medical gave away 5,000 canes that year to honor the parents and relatives of its employees who served in the U.S. military. In 2009, Hugo Salutes gave out 25,000 canes on Veterans Day.

This year, with the backing of Sam’s Club, Schiff, First Quality, Member’s Mark, U.S. Nutrition, Fixodent, Poise, Joint Juice, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson & Johnson and AMG Medical, Hugo Salutes Our Veterans will be greatly expanded to give out 36,000 canes over three days — Veterans Day and the days before and after.

The Hugo folding cane that will be given out retails for $29.99. It is a “patriotic blue" with an ergonomic comfort-grip handle, appropriate for both left- and right-handed users. Sturdy, functional and stylish, it has multiple height settings to comfortably meet the needs of most people. The Hugo folding cane easily unfolds, locks into position for use and also includes a handle safety strap for extra confidence. To store, the cane conveniently folds into four sections.
