CRN Foundation launches 'the Supplemental,' a blog on better health and wellness

5/14/2012

WASHINGTON — The CRN Foundation’s “Life…supplemented” consumer wellness campaign on Monday launched its new blog, "the Supplemental," which will provide consumers with fun, fresh, new perspectives to educate and inform consumers on combining  healthy diet, supplements and exercise to optimize one’s health and well-being.

“'The Supplemental' is an educational, encouraging, real-life resource for consumers, with helpful tips for people starting a new wellness regimen or looking to maintain what’s already working,” stated Judy Blatman, SVP communications for the Council for Responsible Nutrition. “By enlisting a diverse cadre of experienced bloggers — including moms, fitness and health experts, and healthcare practitioners — we will provide our readers with unique personalities and individualized perspectives on good health.”

The blog will feature eight regular contributors, including:

  • Carla Birnberg, writer, personal trainer, former bodybuilding competitor and author of "MizFitOnline";

  • Leslie Bonci, a registered dietitian, director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center for Sports Medicine, former representative for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and contributor to Runner’s World;

  • Tina Haupert, freelance writer, author of the blog Carrots ‘N’ Cake and book "Carrots ‘N’ Cake: Healthy Living One Carrot and Cupcake at a Time," and certified personal trainer;

  • Sheryl Kraft, freelance health journalist, essayist and author of "Midlife Matters";

  • Duffy MacKay, naturopathic doctor, scientist with the Council for Responsible Nutrition and contributor to Naturally Savvy;

  • Andrea Metcalf, healthy lifestyle expert as seen on "NBC Today Show," motivational speaker and author of "NakedFitness";

  • Danielle Omar, registered dietitian, nutrition strategist and author of "Food Confidence"; and

  • Liz Scherer, health journalist, digital copywriter, women’s health advocate and author of "Flashfree."

In-line with the “Life…supplemented” campaign, "the Supplemental" will encompass the three pillars of good health — healthy diet, dietary supplements and regular exercise — and include topics ranging from eating well on-the-go and supplementing the diet to training for races and reducing stress.

“Our goal with 'the Supplemental' is to provide diverse content that will be beneficial to our followers," Blatman said. "We want to give our readers not only the comfort of identifying with everyday challenges and successes, but also the tools they need to tailor advice to fit their own particular lifestyles.”
