FDA announces recall of two adulterated drugs available online

SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration last week prompted the recall of two more products sold as supplements but adulterated with prescription medicines.

Drive Total Energy, headquartered in San Diego, recalled its Rock Hard Extreme and Passion Coffee dietary supplements. The FDA found that the products contained sulfoaildenafil, an analogue of sildenafil that is an FDA-approved drug used in the treatment of male erectile dysfunction.

Rock Hard Extreme and Passion Coffee, distributed by Drive Total Energy, are sold on Internet sites, online marketplaces, and in retail outlets in single blister packs, single packets and 10-count capsule bottles Rock Hard Extreme single pack Lot # 1152010, expiration date Jan. 15, 2013; Rock Hard Extreme Bottle Lot # 1152010, expiration date Jan. 15, 2013; Passion Coffee UPC 7 97882 00001 2.

Meanwhile, PRock Marketing of Kissimmee, Fla., recalled all lots of Fruta Planta and Reduce Weight Fruta Planta after the FDA confirmed that Fruta Planta contained sibutramine, a drug withdrawn from the market in December 2010 for safety reasons.

In this case, the FDA noted it had received multiple reports of adverse events associated with the use of Fruta Planta and Reduce Weight Fruta Planta, including several cardiac events and one death.

Fruta Planta and Reduce Weight Fruta Planta was sold online at FrutaPlanta.com and other online retailers.
