PARSIPPANY, N.J. — GlaxoSmithKline is gearing up for a Feb. 4 launch of its Flonase Allergy Relief (fluticasone propionate 50 mcg spray), an over-the-counter nasal spray indicated for relief of all nasal and eye-related allergy symptoms, including runny nose, sneezing, itchy nose, nasal congestion and itchy and watery eyes, according to the company.
The allergy Rx-to-OTC switch is available for pre-order on all of the major retail pharmacy sites, including CVS.com, RiteAid.com and Walgreens.com, for prices ranging from $22.99 to $26.99 for its 0.54 fl. oz. SKU. And Walgreens on Friday posted a video to its YouTube channel explaining the benefits of Flonase.
“With the significant number of allergy sufferers in the United States and a considerable number of those unsatisfied with their current treatments, we believe the wide availability of Flonase Allergy Relief over-the-counter is great news for these individuals," said Colin Mackenzie, GSK president of Consumer Healthcare North America at the time the switch was first announced. "We are proud of our track record of successful Rx-to-OTC switches which over the years have significantly improved access to important medicines for our consumers.”
The introduction marks the second nasal corticosteroid to reach the market. Chattem's introduction of Nasacort in the spring of 2014 has generated sales of $130 million so far across total U.S. multi-outlet, according to IRI, for the 52 weeks ended Dec. 28.
