Meijer announces on-demand flu shot offering

10/12/2010

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. A Midwest retailer is expanding its pharmacy services to include on-demand flu shots at all of its stores.

Meijer's VP pharmacy operations, Karen Mankowski, said Tuesday that the chain will expand its flu shot capability by offering flu shots to customers on a walk-in basis from Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Patients who need flu shots outside of the scheduled hours can contact their local Meijer pharmacist for options.

At the Meijer pharmacy, flu shots are available for adults and children 9 years of age and older at a cost of $24.99. Most insurance plans, including Medicare, are accepted, and every customer who purchases a flu shot will receive a 2011 planner with a coupon book valued at more than $80.

"Our expanded flu shot capability is yet another step in our efforts to make our stores a destination point for customers seeking healthy-living solutions," said Mankowski. "Meijer pharmacies are evolving to provide a variety of services on both sides of the pharmacy counter, with our pharmacists becoming a key connection point for our customers."
