Merck Manuals goes digital

5/14/2015

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. — Merck will no longer update or publish its Merck Manuals comprehensive guide to medicines and disease states. At least not in print, explained Merck Manuals editor-in-chief Robert Porter in a recent blog post.

Now that MerckManuals.com has gone live, healthcare professionals and consumers seeking current and credible medical information can access it from the same resource, Merck announced recently.

"We are continually updating our content and publishing it online as soon as it is ready, so we make no distinction among 'editions.' Our sole distinction is audience," Porter wrote. "The Professional version retains its 116-year focus on health care students and practitioners, while the Consumer Version is for patients, caregivers and everyone else who needs easy access to clear, reliable medical information."

Users of the website can select from two options on its landing page: one with advanced content designed for healthcare professionals and the other with the same subject matter translated into easy-to-understand language for consumers.

Multimedia features include daily medical news feeds, expert commentary, infographics, animations, video clips, health calculators and trackers, quizzes, a drug interaction checker, a pill identifier and a guide to pronunciation of medical terms.

More than 350 medical experts currently serve as contributors to the website and all content is reviewed by an independent editorial board.
