Natrol, whose melatonin products lead the sleep supplement segment, is rolling out a new product aimed at helping children get to sleep. The company has launched Natrol Kids Melatonin, which the company said can help as children get back to a better sleeping schedule as they return to school.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found that 6-in-10 middle schoolers don’t get enough sleep every night.
“When children get fewer hours, especially over time, it builds up in the body as sleep deprivation that can affect growth, development, and the ability to learn at school,” said Tanya Altmann, a pediatrician focused on sleep and healthy lifestyle. “Sudden changes in routine, like going from a summer schedule back to school, can be highly disruptive and throw children off cycle. In those cases, in addition to good sleep hygiene routines, a low-dose melatonin supplement like new Natrol Kids Melatonin can help get kids back on track with their sleep — it’s what I recommend to my patients who may have some difficulty sleeping.”
Natrol Kids Melatonin are specially formulated to help children get to sleep faster and sleep longer, the company said. They are available in two formulations — fast-dissolve tablets and gummies. The tablets are strawberry-flavored, fast-dissolve tablets each contain 1 mg of melatonin and 1 mg of lemon balm. The gummies are berry-flavored and contain 1 mg of melatonin. Both products are vegan, non-GMO and free of artificial colors, flavors and preservatives. They are recommended for children 4 years old and older.
“As a mom of three, I know how difficult it is when kids can’t sleep. That’s why we created Natrol Kids Melatonin,” said Michelle Baron, director of marketing at Natrol. “As the No. 1 brand of melatonin^ and manufacturer of science-based, high-quality products, we wanted to give parents a solution they could be confident in so that the whole family — kids as well as adults — can experience the benefit of a Natrol Night.”
