Ocean Spray is making a foray into the vitamins, minerals and supplements space with its latest launch. The Lakeville-Middleboro, Mass.-based company, known for its cranberry products, has introduced its Cranberry +health Cranberry Supplements.
Meant to promote urinary tract health, the daily supplement chews are made from real fruit and are free of artificial flavors, colors and preservatives, the company said. The chews each contain 25 calories, and also are free of gluten.
“Research suggests that the cranberry holds a whole host of total body benefits and for decades we at Ocean Spray have been dedicated to researching, supporting and delivering great-tasting, good-for-you products,” said Chet Baker, director of health care and new platforms at Ocean Spray. “The introduction of Cranberry +health Cranberry Supplements sets in motion our commitment to provide products that deliver even better taste, health and convenience for our consumers busy lifestyles.”
The company noted that research from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showing that consume 8 oz. of cranberry juice cocktail every day can reduce recurrence of symptomatic UTIs by roughly 40%. The Ocean Spray supplements contain the same amount of cranberry polyphenols as the juice drink formula from the study, and the company’s director of global health science and nutrition policy, Christina Koo, said, “fewer UTIs could mean a significant reduction in the need for antibiotics used to treat them.”
The supplements are sold in 7- and 28-count boxes, which carry suggested retail prices of $5.99 and $22.99 respectively. They currently are sold at CVS Pharmacy locations and cvspharmacy.com, the company said.
