RONKONKOMA, N.Y. — The Nature's Bounty Co. on Thursday unveiled a survey fielded by the Osteo Bi-Flex team which found that a majority of Americans ages 50+ experience "FOMO," or Fear of Missing Out, due to concerns about joint comfort.
"These findings are concerning to learn that Americans are having to miss out on the joy of creating memories with their loved ones because of joint discomfort," stated Albert So, marketing director Osteo Bi-Flex. "Today's digital landscape sometimes promotes a sedentary lifestyle that is unhealthy, and that can be amplified for those who currently have concerns about joint health," he said. "It is important for consumers to take a proactive approach to joint health before they experience FOMO due to joint comfort concerns; we want to empower individuals to continue to do what they love and keep as physically active as they are mentally."
When faced with an opportunity to enjoy quality time with their children or grandchildren, the majority of those surveyed would rather forgo the activity entirely instead of facing the looming joint issues including stiffness and flair-ups. Approximately 73% of Americans over the age of 50 who experience issues with joint comfort have admitted to skipping an outing or activity because they are concerned about their discomfort.
While individuals should be excited to embrace summertime activities, many of those surveyed had a negative outlook about returning to their favorite outdoor past times. In fact, as a direct result of their joint discomfort, 57% of 50+ sufferers believed they could no longer enjoy all the activities they used to and nearly half (48%) were worried about missing out on important life moments.
The Osteo Bi-Flex survey was conducted by Wakefield Research among 1,000 nationally representative U.S. adults ages 50+ between March 30, 2017 and April 5, 2017, using an email invitation and an online survey.
