Report: PSE legislation proposal hits Jefferson County, Mo.

HILLSBORO, Mo. It started with two municipalities in neighboring Franklin County, and now Jefferson County, located just outside St. Louis, similarly has proposed to require prescriptions for the common cough-cold remedy pseudoephedrine in an attempt to curb methamphetamine production, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday.

County executives recently voted unanimously to require prescriptions for over-the-counter medications containing the decongestant pseudoephedrine in the first of three readings the bill must pass before it can become law. If passed, the legislation would become binding for nine of the county’s 32 pharmacies, County Executive Ed Kemp told the paper. The other pharmacies fall within unincorporated areas.
