Study suggests increase in heart disease risk from vitamin D deficiency

6/10/2008

CHICAGO A study published in the June 9 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine found that vitamin D deficiency may increase the risk of heart disease.

A nested case-control study was conducted in 18,225 men between the ages of 40 and 75 years who were free of diagnosed cardiovascular disease at blood collection.

The study found that men deficient in vitamin D were at increased risk for myocardial infarction as compared to men who were not vitamin D deficient.
