Virulite introduces cold sore treatment device

NEW YORK — Virulite, LLC introduced Tuesday the Virulite CS Cold Sore device, a hand-held, light-based treatment that prevents the spread of cold sores and relieves burning and itching.

Previously only available in Europe, the treatment will be accessible in the United States over the counter and via prescription. It is the only FDA-approved device of its kind.

"Consumers in the United States will now have access to the most cutting-edge technology for the treatment of cold sores," Steve Mencanin, Virulite’s managing partner, said.



By the summer of 2016, Virulite will release a disposable version of the device.

"Up and above being the best treatment for cold sores available, the product will prevent scarring of the lip line and can even reverse existing scarring from cold sores,” Mencanin said. “Our testimonials include people who have suffered years of treating recurring cold sores. They say the product had truly unique attributes in immediate and sustained pain relief and tremendous reduction in breakout duration.”



Virulite is still selecting retailers and distribution partners, and the product will be available to American consumers in August, the company said.
