Albertson's expands discount generic drug program
BOISE, Idaho Albertson’s will expand its generic prescription drug discount program, the supermarket chain announced Tuesday.
The Boise, Idaho-based chain said it would expand its Rx-tra Savings program by charging $10.99 for 90-day supplies of more than 500 generic drugs. It has also added new medications to the program, including drugs to treat cholesterol, hypertension and women’s health. Albertson’s launched the program in October, offering 30-day supplies of drugs for $4.99.
Several supermarket, retail pharmacy and mass merchandising chains nationwide have introduced similar programs. Walmart started the trend in 2006.
Albertson’s said the program is available at stores in Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas.
