2/24/2017
BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons on Thursday announced that it had trained 3,000 of its pharmacists under its various banners to administer Adapt Pharma’s Narcan Nasal Spray and counsel patient on how to use the opioid overdose reversal drug.

Pharmacists at the Acme, Albertsons, Albertsons Market, Carrs, Pavilions, Randalls, Safeway, Shaw’s Tom Thumb and Vons can dispense Narcan in Alaska, California, Colorado, Idaho, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 78 Americans die daily from opioid overdoses. Narcan Nasal Spray is the only FDA-approved naloxone nasal spray, and it typically reverses overdose effects in two to three minutes.

"The research on naloxone as an emergency treatment for opioid overdoses is proven. With our teams in place as a resource for this medication, we are keeping with our commitment to serve and improve the health and wellness of all our customers while also making our communities stronger," Mark Panzer, Albertsons SVP pharmacy health and wellness, said.
