Amneal intros generic Lotronex tablets

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Amneal Pharmaceuticals on Monday launched its generic of Lotronex (alosetron hydrochloride) tablets. The drug is indicated to treat irritable bowel syndrome in some women whose main symptom is diarrhea, whose IBS has lasted six months or longer or who have not been helped by other treatments. 


 


Amneal’s generic has begun shipping in 30-count bottles of 0.5- and 1-mg dosage strengths through wholesalers, distributors and directly to the trade. This is Amneal’s first launch in this therapeutic class, and is one of two currently available Lotronex generics. The generic was approved under a Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy known as the Alosetron REMS program. 


 


The U.S. sales for Lotronex were $50 million, according to data from QuintilesIMS.
