APhA Foundation welcomes three new board members

WASHINGTON Following the installment of new board members at the American Pharmacists Association's annual meeting last month, the APhA Foundation officially welcomed Mark Cziraky, Daniel Luce and David Schulke to its board of directors.

The three will serve three-year terms for APhA's charitable arm.

Mark Cziraky is staff VP research development and operations at HealthCore, Inc. in Wilmington, Del. Healthcore studies the "real world" safety and effectiveness of drugs, medical devices and care management interventions and offers insight on how to best use this data to healthcare decision-makers to support evidence-based medicine, product development decisions, safety monitoring, coverage decisions, process improvement and overall cost-effective health care. He serves on the board of directors for other organizations, including the Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology, the National Lipid Association and the board of trustees with the Institute for Safe Medication Practices

As the national director of pharmacy affairs with Walgreens, one of the nation's largest drug store chains, Daniel Luce's responsibilities are focused on regulatory initiatives, which involve the advancement of pharmacy technology systems, including workload balancing, prescription imaging, and routing of prescriptions. He works with both state boards of pharmacy and state legislatures. During his eight-year tenure on the Wisconsin Pharmacy Examining Board, Luce served both as the vice chair and chairman of the board.

David Schulke is VP research programs for the Health Research & Educational Trust, an affiliate of the American Hospital Association, in Washington. Schulke worked for twelve years with Congress, where  he focused on healthcare quality and access problems and drafted legislation that led to the establishment of the first Medicare outpatient prescription drug benefit, enacted in 1988, and the Medicaid drug rebate program enacted in 1990. He also served on the White House health reform task force in 1993-94.
