3/3/2008

ORLANDO, Fla. BayCare Health Systems and the University of South Florida have joined together with the National ePrescribing Patient Safety Initiative to help promote eprescribing to all physicians in the Tampa Bay area by providing education, training, incentives and local physician support.

According to Stephen Klasko, dean of the USF College of Medicine and vice president of USF Health, “By partnering with BayCare Health System, we believe we can significantly accelerate acceptance of electronic prescribing in both the USF academic setting and BayCare’s community care environment.”

NEPSI has been working to provide physicians in every state e-prescribing at no cost. The organization is connected with SureScripts to provide physicians a connection with more than 95 percent of all pharmacies in the U.S.

According to Bruce Flareau, chief informatics officer of BayCare, “Our support of free e-prescribing will help the Tampa Bay area’s physicians automate their prescription process for accuracy and speed, and will also make available easy-to-use drug reference to support their medication choices.”
