Court claims lack of scientific evidence in Celebrex case

NEW YORK A New York state court has ruled that patients suing Pfizer have failed to present reliable scientific evidence to prove that the company’s anti-inflammatory drug Celebrex 200 mgs can cause heart attacks and strokes.

The ruling follows a November 2007 decision by a California federal judge who held that more than 3,000 plaintiffs could not rely on expert testimony to prove that the 200 mg version of the drug caused their heart attacks or strokes.

These two decisions could result in the dismissal of many Celebrex liability cases, which the majority of which are pending in these two courts, according to Pfizer.
