Dr. Reddy's to market generic version of popular statin
NEW YORK Dr. Reddy’s Labs will market a generic version of a popular cholesterol-lowering medication in the United States, according to published reports.
The Business Standard, an Indian newspaper, reported that Dr. Reddy’s planned to launch a version of Pfizer’s drug Lipitor (atorvastatin) in the next two to three years. Lipitor is the world’s top-selling drug, with sales of $7.8 billion in the United States and $13.65 billion worldwide in 2008, according to IMS Health.
Ranbaxy Labs will be the first to launch the drug in the United States, in 2011, once Pfizer’s patent expires.
