Drug Fair Group shutters two locations, sends patients elsewhere
SOMERSET, N.J. Regional player Drug Fair Group has unexpectedly shuttered at least two locations and is directing surprised pharmacy patients to other nearby retailers to get their prescriptions filled.
A Drug Fair spokesperson was not immediately available for comment and it is unclear if other locations will close. Meanwhile, some industry sources are speculating that some larger chains may be looking to acquire some locations.
According to the company's Web site, the chain operates 48 Drug Fair locations, some of which are located within its Cost Cutters stores or Super Foodtown.
Signs that have been posted in the windows of the locations in Rockaway and Raritan Borough in New Jersey indicate that the stores are "closed until further notice."
The sign at the Raritan Borough store directs pharmacy patients to a nearby Wegman's, which, according to local reports, has acquired the prescription files from that location. The sign at the Rockaway store reportedly directs pharmacy patients to a nearby ShopRite.
