NEW YORK Two drug makers are sponsoring a campaign that offers a chance to win a walk on the runway at the New York City Fashion Show.

Amgen and Wyeth announced Wednesday that they have hired “Project Runway” host and fashion consultant Tim Gunn as a celebrity spokesman for their psoriasis awareness campaign, Address Psoriasis.

The winner will be chosen from among contestants aged 18 and older who have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis but who try not to allow the condition to inhibit their personal style, the companies said.

“This program is designed to help people with psoriasis feel more confident with their everyday style because style is just as much about confidence as it is clothing,” Gunn said in a statement. “When someone doesn’t feel confident, it is reflected in the clothing choices he or she makes.”

Psoriasis, a chronic autoimmune disorder that causes skin cells to grow too quickly, affects almost 7 million Americans. About 80% of people with the condition have plaque psoriasis, which causes painful and itchy red, scaly patches to develop on the skin.
