FDA approves Ranbaxy to market generic Zyrtec

MUMBAI, India The Food and Drug Administration has granted approval to Ranbaxy Laboratories to manufacture and market cetirizine hydrochloride, the generic of Pfizer’s allergy medication Zyrtec.

The approvals are for an oral solution and children’s cetirizine hydrochloride oral solution, as well as an over-the-counter product.

Total annual sales for cetirizine hydrochloride syrup as a prescription only product were $157 million, according to IMS Health.
