Flublok granted expanded approval from FDA

11/3/2014

MERIDEN, Conn. — Protein Sciences Corp. last week announced that the Food and Drug Administration approved Flublok influenza vaccine for all adults ages 18 years and older. Flublok is the only licensed flu vaccine made using recombinant technology and the only flu vaccine that is 100% egg-free and highly purified, according to the company. The expanded age indication for the vaccine means it is now available for everyone over the age of 50 years who may have been waiting to be vaccinated.

"Older adults are known to be at high risk for contracting and developing complications from influenza," said Lisa Dunkle, MD, chief medical officer of Protein Sciences. "Flublok has been shown to induce high antibody levels in seniors."

Earlier in the year, the FDA approved a shelf-life extension for Flublok to six months. The vaccine is available at Passport Health locations across the nation, as well as select pharmacies, clinics and doctor's offices. A list of locations can be accessed at Flublok.com.
