Genoa Healthcare's pharmacy debuts in California
Genoa Healthcare’s unique pharmacy model, customized to the needs of those living with behavioral health and addiction issues, is making its California debut at Telecare Corporation’s Orange County Assisted Outpatient Treatment program, according to a report in Open Minds.
Genoa Healthcare operates more than 425 pharmacies in behavioral health centers in 46 states plus the District of Columbia.
The model has proven to help consumers stay on their medications at a rate of more than 90%, compared with an average rate of about 50% with a traditional approach. A study published in a peer-reviewed journal found that this type of integrated pharmacy also reduces emergency room visits by 18%, hospitalizations by 40%, and significantly reduces the total cost of care, the report said.
In California, 1-in-6 adults suffer from some form of mental illness, and 1-in-20 adults — 1-in-13 children — have a severe mental illness that makes it difficult to perform daily activities.
“We are excited to bring this proven model of care to the state of California where millions of individuals can benefit,” Genoa Healthcare's CEO John Figueroa said. “This is especially meaningful because I was born and raised in the great State of California.”
Genoa's pharmacies have the capacity to fill all medications and are able to bill Medi-Cal, Medicare and private insurers.
