Giant offers discount program for generic drugs

WASHINGTON Giant Food will offer 90-day supplies of 350 generic prescription drugs for $9.99, the chain announced Thursday.

It joins the large number of retailers offering similar programs. Earlier this month, Safeway began offering generic drugs for $4 for 30-day supplies. The first retailer to offer such a program was Wal-Mart, which began offering the discounts in 2006.

Giant Food operates 184 stores in the District of Columbia, Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.
