Gilead sues Lupin over patent infringement

7/15/2010

FOSTER CITY, Calif. Drug maker Gilead Sciences has filed a suit against Indian generic drug maker Lupin for patent infringement over a drug used to treat angina, Gilead said Wednesday.

The lawsuit, filed in a U.S. District Court in New Jersey, concerns the drug Ranexa (ranolazine).

Ten patents cover Ranexa, all of which expire in 2019. Lupin would have to invalidate all of them in order to launch its generic version of the drug.
