Healthcare satirist ZDoggMD headlines NCPA Annual speaker lineup

6/9/2017

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — ZDoggMD, also known as Zubin Damania, will be the keynote speaker at the National Community Pharmacists Association Annual Convention October 14-18, according to a YouTube video posted by the satirical doctor on Thursday.

"Our nation's at a crossroads in health care today," he opens in the video. "As pharmacists, y'all know that the system ain't working. It's fractured. It rewards these silos of activity instead of awarding caregivers to actually work together on a team to do what they do best at the top of their license in service of patients."

ZDoggMD has a creative message of bringing everyone in health care together to create a better system of care that both incorporates fair payment and treatment for clinicians like pharmacists and inspires both personal and system transformation.

During a 10-year hospitalist career at Stanford, Damania won clinical teaching awards while simultaneously maintaining a shadow career performing stand-up comedy for medical audiences worldwide. His videos, created under the pseudonym ZDoggMD, have gone epidemically viral with more than 130 million views on YouTube and Facebook, educating patients and providers while mercilessly satirizing the dysfunctional health care system.

Damania, an internist, is the founder of Turntable Health, an innovative health care startup that was part of an ambitious urban revitalization movement spearheaded by Zappos.com CEO Tony Hsieh. Turntable Health, a membership model team-based primary care ecosystem, was a ground-up effort to get health care right by restoring the primacy of the human relationship, a concept he calls "Health 3.0."
