Kmart introduces Smart Assist Savings Card

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. A mass merchandiser is responding to the economic crisis by offering assistance to unemployed residents of Michigan.

Kmart announced Tuesday the introduction of the Kmart Smart Assist Savings Card, which gives eligible customers a 20% discount on more than 1,200 regularly priced, private-label grocery and pharmacy products for up to six months.

The program received praise from elected officials in the state.

“This is good corporate citizenship, and I want to applaud Kmart and its parent company, Sears Holdings, for doing its part to help people who are struggling,” Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., stated. “We have a lot of people in transition right now, and these displaced workers will – like our state itself – get back on their feet and remember those who helped during this time of hardship.”

The program is available to verifiably unemployed Michigan residents, who can register at www.kmart.com and receive a Kmart Smart Assist Savings Card valid for six months. The cards are nontransferable.
