Kroger expands discount drug program

CINCINNATI With several supermarket chains in the U.S. starting and expanding generic prescription drug discount programs, The Kroger Co. is doing the same.

Starting May 14, Kroger will expand the discount drug program at its in-store pharmacies, which began offering 30-day supplies of generic drugs for $4 last fall. The expanded program will increase the number of drugs offered to more than 300 and offer 90-day supplies for $10.

The company will also offer more women’s health generics, which will cost $9 for 30-day supplies and $24 for 90-day supplies. These include the breast cancer drug tamoxifen and the osteoporosis drug Alendronate.

The program will be available at most Kroger supermarkets, as well as QFC, Ralphs, Dillons, Fred Meyer and and the price-impact warehouse chain Food 4 Less.
