Marsh Supermarkets to provide free heart medicines with new Cardiac Care program

INDIANAPOLIS — Marsh Supermarkets announced on Thursday a Cardiac Care Program within their 39 pharmacy locations throughout Indiana. The program provides patients with free prescriptions of common medications used to treat many heart conditions as well as access to nutrition resources to support a heart healthy diet.   

 

“Our new Cardiac Cares Program demonstrates our continued commitment to communities and families that we serve,” said Michael Penn, director of pharmacy for Marsh Supermarkets. “Heart disease continues to be the leading cause of death in the United States, and Marsh is proud to help not only with affordable medications but also with premium, fresh and healthy food choices to support our customers.” 

 

Marsh is the first pharmacy in Indiana to offer a program focusing on these cardiac medications, the retailer stated. Patients can receive a 30 day supply of furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide tablets free with a prescription from their physician.

 

The new Cardiac Care Program is an extension of Marsh’s successful Diabetes Care Program in which patients can receive one of seven free diabetes medications at the pharmacy. Since the Diabetes Care Program launched in November of 2011, Marsh Pharmacy has given away more than 62,000 free diabetes prescriptions and saved residents more than $1 million in prescription costs.
