McKesson, Safeway come to terms on chainwide pharmacy system rollout
SAN FRANCISCO McKesson Corp. revealed Monday that Safeway will deploy its newest pharmacy management system, EnterpriseRx, in all of its U.S.-based pharmacies.
EnterpriseRx is a fully-integrated and centrally-hosted pharmacy management software package developed by McKesson Pharmacy Systems.
The rollout will extend a longtime relationship between the supermarket and pharmacy giant and McKesson, which serves as a supplier to Safeway. The EnterpriseRx system will help strengthen medication safety and service to patients at Safeway’s more than 1,300 supermarket-based pharmacies, according to McKesson. “It will also allow Safeway to manage demand and resources more efficiently and effectively across its enterprise,” the company noted.
“For many years, McKesson and Safeway have worked together to improve the way individuals receive pharmacy care,” said Stanton McComb, president of McKesson Pharmacy Systems. “We could not be more pleased to further extend that partnership with EnterpriseRx. We are especially proud to have the chance to work with a leader like Safeway and we appreciate the importance they are placing on healthcare by making such an investment in this economic environment.”
The deal with Safeway propels McKesson Pharmacy Systems into the top tier of pharmacy software providers. The company’s EnterpriseRx system, first unveiled in 2006, is now used in more than 3,000 retail and health system pharmacies, according to McKesson.
