ARLINGTON, Va. — The Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research, HDMA’s non-profit research foundation, and Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, honored Paul Julian, EVP and group president at McKesson with the 2015 Nexus Award for Lifetime Achievement.

The Nexus Award, which was presented at HDMA’s 2015 Business and Leadership Conference in San Antonio, recognizes exceptional character, accomplishments and leadership in HDMA, the industry and community.

“Through his participation with HDMA and other industry organizations, Paul has been a tireless champion for the value and efficiencies that distributors provide to the healthcare industry,” stated John Gray, president and CEO of HDMA. “It has been an honor to work with him, and I congratulate him on this prestigious achievement.”

Julian, who currently oversees McKesson’s domestic and international distribution solutions businesses, joined the company in 1996 as EVP of McKesson Health Systems. He has held a number of roles in the company, including president of McKesson’s medical-surgical business.

Among his other accomplishments at the company, Julian is credited with leading the development of McKesson’s Health Mart independent pharmacy network, as well as TogetherRx and Rx Savings Access savings cards to help seniors save money on their prescription medicines.

“Paul and I have worked together for more than two decades. His dedication to this industry, his commitment to his colleagues and his tireless pursuit of operational excellence has always set him apart. McKesson has been fortunate to have Paul’s service over these many years and I am privileged to have him as a friend and colleague,” stated John Hammergren, McKesson’s CEO and chairman.

Prior to McKesson, Julian served in a number of senior management positions for healthcare companies, including Owens & Minor. At Stuart Medical, he became group VP and COO within five years of starting as a sales manager.

Julian served as a member of HDMA’s Board of Directors from 2000 to 2013. During that time he was a member of the Association’s executive committee (2005 to 2013). From 2008 until 2010, Julian served as HDMA chairman, a tenure that included advocating for the establishment of a federal traceability framework, among other issues. He also served as the chairman of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Wholesalers and serves on the board of directors for the National Association of Chain Drug Stores.

“Paul Julian’s many career accomplishments and commitment to supply chain excellence and innovation have had a lasting impact on the pharmaceutical distribution industry,” added Karen Ribler, EVP and COO of the Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research. “The Center is delighted to welcome him into the Nexus winners’ circle.”
